About the shop

The best vintage gear was built to last forever. We find it and pass it on.

There’s incredible equipment all over Montana — in garages, barns, storage units, and basement racks. 50-pound receivers, 80-pound speakers, solid walnut cabinets and massive transformers.

Shipping this stuff out of state costs more than most people paid for it. eBay listings sit for months with “local pickup only.”

We built Montana HiFi to fix that. Every seller is vetted. Every listing is reviewed. Payment is handled securely. Everything is local pickup — because that’s the only way this stuff should change hands.

Nakamichi BX-300 Cassette Deck
Excellent
Nakamichi · 1983

Nakamichi BX-300 Cassette Deck

Nakamichi built the finest cassette decks ever made, and the BX-300 is the sweet spot of their lineup — serious Nak performance without the four-figure price tag. Three-head design with separate record and playback heads, Dolby B and C, and that legendary Nakamichi transport precision. Records and plays back beautifully. If you still have a tape collection, this is the deck that will make you fall in love with it again.

Sansui AU-717 Integrated Amplifier

Sansui's AU-717 is one of the great sleeper amps of the late 70s. 85 watts per channel of DC-coupled power that sounds bigger than the spec sheet suggests. This unit is in good working condition — all inputs and outputs function, volume pot is clean, no channel imbalance. Cabinet has some light scratches consistent with age. A fantastic entry point into serious vintage amplification.

Very Good
JBL · 1975

JBL L100 Century Speakers (Pair)

A matched pair of JBL L100 Centuries with the iconic orange foam grilles — both original and in remarkably good shape. Woofer surrounds were professionally refoamed last year. These have the 123A woofers and LE5-2 midranges that made this speaker a legend. The walnut cabinets show honest patina but no gouges or water damage. These will fill a room with that warm, punchy JBL sound that modern speakers cannot touch.

Marantz 2270 Stereo Receiver

Fully restored 1972 Marantz 2270 — the crown jewel of the golden era. This unit has been completely recapped with Nichicon Fine Gold capacitors, all lamps replaced with warm LEDs that replicate the original glow, and the walnut cabinet has been hand-oiled to a buttery finish. 70 watts per channel of pure Class AB warmth. Why Vintage Receivers Sound Better (It's Not Just Nostalgia)

The argument for vintage hi-fi isn't sentimental — it's technical. Class AB topology, overbuilt power supplies, and real aluminum faceplates aren't just cosmetic choices.
